Palmyra- Halvorsen

The 1970s classic Halvorsen, “Palmyra” simply needs no introduction. “Palmyra” has earned her rightful spot in the Wakeford Marine teams “Feature Projects”. As you can see from the photos above, the entire engine room was cleaned out and redesigned. Making it possible for the Wakeford Marine team to commence the magic. Removing the floorboards enabled us to reach the bare structure and supporting trusses. Analysis of the structure concluded that, in order to accommodate for the repower consisting of two new Yanmar 6LY440 common-rail engines, structural changes would have to be made. The Wakeford Marine team engineered and designed these mounting frames, from scratch in our workshop, to suit these needs, required specifically by “Palmyra”.

With the foundation now manufactured and in place, the other pieces of the puzzle started to find their positions. Along with installing of all new running gear we also included brand new shafts, which were resized up to two inches. As a result, “Palmyra” is now able to enjoy an improved top speed of 25 knots and a leisurely cruising speed of 18-20 knots, all with the confidence inspired by class-leading power-to-weight ratio Yanmar engines, and Wakeford Marine know-how.

“To put it simply, she just handles beautifully now since putting the Yanmars in”, Palmyra’s current owner.

1950s Chris-craft Riviera

Second, to be featured is a very special vessel which outdates even the likes of “Palmyra”.  A 1950s Chris Craft Riviera which was brought to Wakeford Marine Services seeking a full repower.

Chris crafts are American manufactured vessels, with a demanding presence on the water. This vintage Riviera was no exception, still operating with the original 120hp Chris Craft Hercules KLC straight six.

While this is amazing, it was time to bring this classic into the modern era. While it is no secret that some older vessels need to be forced into the modern era, often having difficulties adapting to modern technology. This was not the case with repowering this timeless classic.

The Wakeford Marine team wasted no time, removing the original engine in order to analyse the 1950s classical wooden frames. It was no surprise there would have to be some major changes made to accommodate the new engine. Due to the limited space and the client’s desires for the repower, it was imperative that everything fitted perfectly in the tight space. With guidance from the Wakeford Marine team, Coastline Shipwrights were able to alter the supporting trusses in order to fit the new, V8 6 liter PCM 409hp. This added an incredible 289hp almost 3,5 times her original 120hp.

This 1950s Chris Craft Riviera is a spirited old lady in all her grandeur, still out stealing the Australian spotlight. Repowered and equipped to handle any activity, from a relaxing Sunday afternoon stroll to chasing the sunset.
